Who needs to be certified?
The person in charge at class 2, 3, and 4 food establishments. Legislation passed during the 2018
session included a provision for an alternate person in charge for those times when the CFPM cannot
be present. The proposed regulations to implement the FDA Food Code includes language to limit the
use of the alternate person in charge to “…non-peak hours of operation, such as an overnight shift
where only one or two employees are onsite, and there is limited or no food preparation is taking
place.”
What types of establishments are covered?
Includes: Class 2, 3, and 4 food establishments.
Does not include: Class 1 food establishments.
Implementation
Effective July 1, 2018.
National Registry Food Manager Certification Acceptance
National Registry Food Manager Certification, and/or any certificate program accredited by ANSI, under the
Conference for Food Protection Standards. Recertification every 5 years.
